Project Beautiful Survivors P. 3
Looking back on the project, there are multiple functionalities that I would change if I were to continue on with the project. In short, I feel as if I focused on too many different parts of the site to make it look like a finished project site.
I wanted to spend more time on the interactive poem, it could have been incredibly engaging piece that sent a well thought out concept and story. With more imagery as the story goes on was a intended goal that I initially ran out of time for. As well as the next/previous buttons, at the moment, when you get to the last stanza of the poem the next button should disappear to indicate that you cannot go further – this should happen with the first stanza too but with the previous button to indicate that user is at the beginning again. These small interactions would have made a UX/UI just a step closer to being complete.
What did not go well for me was the ability to identify my capabilities as a designer. For creating a project that was different from the quiz on informational content type of a site. It was really hard to create interactions that we may not have talked about in class to get my point across in a beautiful artistic manner. I really wanted the sight to flow simply with a fluid motion like it was just meant to be. During discussions, there was some feedback that I really liked and it was the ability to use the next previous buttons to move from page to page without having to use the top navigation. I think this also could have helped with a fluid movement through out the site.
However, the final product of the website did turn out how I wanted it to look as a whole. How the pages were displayed and looked at – I really liked the idea of not scrolling for a site but just clicking… It definitely made it feel like it was step in the process where scrolling someone could have missed some information on the story. I really did want the overall design to be incredibly simple to main focus on on the words and not get distracted by the content or imagery around it. That being said, I wish I changed the background color to a white or off white so reading the poem would be easier specially for those who have poor eyesight.
Overall, with as many functions that needed to be changed and fixed. I would love to expand on this project and make it feel more stable and whole to really create a safe place for those who have or feel or in support of another that has been effected by domestic abuse.
