Why UX/IxD?
Ever since I could remember, I was always fascinated with how things works. My nimble little fingers could play with Link-In-Logs, Legos, really any object that I could put between my hands where I could create. A defining moment in life was 8th grade, I was Mrs. Swifts Product Design Course. This was really the first time I ever really thought of engineering or even design as a topic that I could actually really enjoy. As I continued through out my year up until college, I taught myself a couple of the Adobe software programs because well I was just curious and interested. It wasn’t until college or TAM for that matter where I found a passion for understanding how people would enjoy to interact with a product or service.
On Tuesday, we really drove into this fairly new… okay maybe 20 year old idea of a user experience. Until the 21st century, there was really no room for an experience with product that were as complex as the computer but with a heavy consumer market - the user experience can make or break a company’s product or service. It drives deeper than just a clean, simple, breathtaking design. Up until Tuesday, I never really thought about the extensive research that is provided to create an interface that is manageable and well liked across thousands of thousands of people. Every human and their interactions are different, statistically, there is mostly infinite possibilities for human interaction in the world. So in a world that is so diversely different, how do we design that caters to it?
Well I guess I hope to answer that question by the end of class or at least get a step closer to answering it. Obviously, depending on a product or service the audience will be specific and a little easier to study their interaction but an idea that is so vast and has so much potential to expand upon various audiences is a million… I mean billion dollar idea that needs a billion dollar interface.
So to answer the question, what do I want to get out of this class…
Well to start, I want to really understand the process so once I am in a position or industry creating these interfaces I know what is expected of me. I want to understand the research aspect, be able to create wireframes and flows that are quality, and ultimately a design that goes above and beyond expectation. And since this is such a group oriented learning environment, I truly hope to learn from my peers, understand their experiences, adapt to challenges and really create a quality that could make people stay engaged in the product or service. I hope I can be a revolutionary in this industry and this is just the beginning.
I cannot wait to dive in and get started.
