Motion Project 2 Proposal & Story Boards
Final Infographic Animation
I have found myself in this world between design and technology. I do not fit in either but believe it to be a good thing. And from time to time when I bleed into the technological side where computers light up, gadgets are magical, and code is the language of wizards, I want to be more part of it but feel this sense of doubt from others. A doubt that silently screams you don’t belong here that pulls me back towards toward the design thinkers. I hate that my self doubt plays such a large role in it too. Possibly because little girls were always taught to smile pretty and not get hurt and to be perfect. Girls did not belong in a world of computers or so we were told. Although unfortunate events in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s that led to women’s underrepresentation in computing, there are signs of hope. This momentum where women are gaining more recognition in these fields cannot slow down in the efforts to get more equal representation. For society to change, change has to start from a younger age by empowering young girls to get involved if they enjoy such an area of study.
I would for the National Center for Women in Information Technologies (NCWIT). And as much as I love the mission of the non-profit, I think there can be some changes that could be made to the way our information gets out into the hands of the people. For example, creating a more effective and interesting way to express statistics and how to solve some of these problems in the gap like creating a kinetic infographics.
I want the visuals to tell a story and give context to that story through various statistics. From style to over content appealing to a young demographic is key in getting the point across. So I want to make the over design playful and fun to create a meaning message of teaching ‘girls to be brave, not perfect’ which comes from a Ted Talk by the founder of SheCodes that may also be the audio to my video.
