Project 2 Proposal: Ohms Stone

Description + Ideation + Use

Although mindfulness is on the up and up in trending healthy lifestyle, I was skeptical to how it helped and what it really did for ones life. However, I looked more and more into the process and how to become more mindful I really started to change my ideas on it.

As a student, the stress of balancing school, work, social, health, and much more can be overwhelming. Not only is this balance difficult but being hyperactive in nature has deemed to be more of an issue as I have come to college. Hyperactivity also can align with anxiety and even depression, both of which, I have struggled with form time to time. However, maybe hopping on this mindfulness wagon could help ease the pains that these attention deficiencies cause.

So I have decided to create an Ohms Stone. Stones have been used for years to activate mindfulness meditation practices and although I admire the tradition and organic-ness of a cold stone, I want to create one that encapsulates myself more with integration of sound and light enclosed by a wooden orb resembling a river rock.

How it will work

My Ohms Stone is meant to help me slow down during the day with active reminders to take a few seconds to close my eyes and just breathe. The interaction during meditation will be enhanced by soothing tones depending on the mood of the day as well as an aura of light that centers that mood and stabilizes it. These will be given by 4 different mood indicator button on the side of the stone that will also be related to 4 different tonal sounds that are preloaded to the environment. The light will be diffused by the enclosure and will shine through the small holes on the top of the wooden stone this will allow for the light to set a mood in a very calming way.

Another interaction that will be included is the reminder tool that will be honed by a light and tone signal. The Ohms Stone is meant to be discrete and not distract in an environment but rather encourage to get away from it.
