Mobile App Development - Envision Phase

Description

In my past years at university, experienced a lack of constructive criticism in open in-class discussion critiques. It is know that not being face-to-face with whom you are critiquing can actually add a lot value to your response. And being able to take your time to give honest constructive feedback is something that can be facilitated through technology.

For my semester long mobile application project, I will be creating a tool for students to be able to post their creative work that allows them to get feedback on projects and be able to view other student projects. Ultimately to enable users to give and get feedback on a project, art piece, essay, etc. that is honest and fair in a safe space.

Objective

Be able to provide a minimum viable product that delivers on:

  • Being able to view all projects on the platform.

  • Be able to comment (directly or indirectly) on a project.

  • Have the ability to get the full context of a project.

Purpose

The purpose is to get students engaged more in their own work while helping others with theirs. I think so many times, we start out with projects that have great potential but never expand on that because we don’t have the motivations to do so or even know where to start.

Scope/boundaries

Ideally this application would go from web to mobile due to the upload functionalities needed to present a project. However, I will have to understand the possibilities of creating the project for mobile use cases and understand how that information will be relayed on a sizable screen.

I will have to hone in on those key features to create a reliable product that can get the job done without the fits and flairs of desktop size.

Target user

My target user will be TAM students. As creatives, they are used to posting their work and documenting. Although they put their work out on display, I hope to reach them by offering a tool that truly provides authentic usable feedback that they can take into consideration.

Although I know who I would target as my early adopters, I truly need to understand what their pain points of critiques are and provide features that may aid in those difficulties.

Key benefits

I know that my key benefits will be being able to create a reliable easy to use product that allows users to:

  • Upload their own projects for critiques

  • Be able to comment on other’s projects

  • Have a profile that allows users to view other projects that they have posted for review

Competition

  • Dribble

  • Behance

Differentiation

  • Creating a more niche scope to the project sharing platform that is specific to a community. This allows for students to feel in a safe environment with their peers that can give constructive feedback that is valuable to their learning.
